Chapter Twelve

It was Friday night. The kids were with Craig and I was home alone. I called Slick and it went straight to voicemail. I threw my phone on the couch. Slick came to Ohio about twice a month since we started seeing each other and I had went to New York once. As much as I loved New York and wanted to visit him there more, he always had an excuse as to why I couldn’t.

I called up Juicy and told her I would be in the next morning. There was always something going on in New York, and that weekend there was a book release party happening. I had to find out what Slick’s life was like in New York and why he did all he could to keep me from visiting him. Of course, I wasn’t telling Juicy that was the reason for the visit. She didn’t even know we took it beyond business, but I was going to get to the bottom of his mysterious life.

I got online, found a flight, and packed my stuff. Juicy picked me up from the airport and we went straight to Times Square for some shopping. I loved that city. The nonstop energy transferred right to me and I felt like I could do anything.

“Girl, so who gonna be at this party tonight?”

“It’s one of Round Da Way Books new authors, Kanitha Jones.”

“Oh yea, I did her cover some months ago.”

“So, you know the whole Round Da Way crew gonna be there as well as some other folks. Maybe your ass can find a man.”

Everybody wanted to see me hooked up. I laughed on the inside at that. I knew whose party it was because Slick had already told me about it. The whole time he was wishing I could be there because Craig was supposed to go out of town with his little girlfriend, but they decided to take the kids last minute. Slick wasn’t updated on that last minute plan, so I hoped he liked the surprise.

I picked up a few things for the kids, and purchased a BCBG halter dress with some strappy sandals. After that, we went to eat. Once we got back to Juicy’s house I was pooped, so she showed me to her guestroom so I could get some rest. She had already dropped her kids off at her mother’s house, so it was quiet.

Once I lay down, I wasn’t sleepy. My mind was on the some graphics I had to get together for a magazine, and Slick. I pulled out my laptop and started playing around with ideas for the magazine. After about an hour, I emerged from the room to hear some bumping and grinding going on in Juicy’s room. Not only did that girl write erotica, she lived it. I laughed to myself, went to her kitchen to pour some juice, and then went back in the room to try to get myself ready. I was glad the room had a bathroom in it.
